Sunday Morning Services
We meet each Sunday morning for worship at 11 am. The length of the service is usually about 60 minutes.
Approximately once each month the 11 am service includes Holy Communion.
We also join with our sister churches at Highlands and Belfairs Methodist Churches and The Fishermen’s Chapel every few months – this may be at Wesley or one of the other churches – please see our events page, or worship posters outside the church, for details.
Other Services
On the second Sunday of the month we have an informal communion service at 9am, followed by breakfast, before the 11am worship.
There is also an informal communion service on the first Wednesday of each month except August at 9 am. This lasts for about 30 minutes. On the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month this service takes place at other Methodist churches in Leigh-on-Sea.
There are monthly informal worship services in different styles at 8 pm on the fourth Tuesday of the month except August, usually for about 45 minutes.
On Monday 16th Jan 2017 the very first Memory Worship, Worship for those with and without Dementia took place here at Wesley Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea. This is a regular monthly service held on 3rd Monday of the month 2pm-4pm. “At Wesley Methodist Church, we believe in a God who accepts you and meets you where you are at today” Rev Julia Monaghan

Style of Worship
This varies according to who is leading the service: Methodist custom is to have a variety of preachers rather than the regular minister every week. It’s fairly common for the Sunday morning service to have five hymns/songs, a couple of Bible readings, prayers, a children’s talk and a sermon. The usual music accompaniment is the church organ, though occasionally the music group (piano, flute and singers) will lead. There are 15-20 minutes of organ music, or songs from the music group, before the service.
Informal Worship is often a more reflective service, though this can vary from month to month.
Sunday Bible reading details for each week are normally from the Lectionary.
Hymn books, Bibles and other worship resources
The main congregational hymn book used at Wesley is Singing the Faith (Methodist Publishing, 2011). We also have access to Hymns and Psalms (Methodist Publishing House, 1983), New Hymns and Worship Songs (Kevin Mayhew Ltd, 1996) and Songs of Fellowship 1/2/3/4 (Kingsway, 2003, 2007). We use a projection screen and, if we are singing any hymns that aren’t in these books, reproduce the words on our weekly notice sheets.
The pew bibles are the Revised English Bible.
We have the Methodist Worship Book (Methodist Publishing House, 1999) but don’t use this for every service.
